Poem

International Waters

by

Amanda White

First impressions take us back to beginnings
and continuings
a ceaseless dance
of unending ebb and flow
shaping and shifting
running together
the feeling of being here and there
at the same time

sifted rinsed and dried
thresholds of water and land
connecting us all

fractured surfaces

look at me with a long gaze
remember
let go

slow intimations
the first time you saw the sea
held ice in your hand
felt rain on your skin
heard the waves rolling in
found tracings in the sand

deep imagainings from soft aeolian breath
goddess and nomad
I will still be here
once you have gone
slipped away
fragile bone
skimmed stone
